The festival ‘Chemins de photos’ presents ‘I love Génerville’, a photographic journey in a village of 60 inhabitants.
Curious gaze of photographers in a village that refuses to die, tinned landscapes, dreamy eye in front of a “private parking” sign, dismay towards a deafening tranquility, smiles in front of the portraits of the inhabitants.
Last winter and spring, 4 photographers from the group “La Boîte Bleue” (‘Blue box’) in Carcassonne walked in the village to meet the inhabitants of the hilly streets of La Piège.
The mayor and the local council opened wide the doors of their modest-sized but welcoming village: the town hall, the school, the multipurpose room, the wastewater treatment plant, the football and tennis fields, the Alphonse Allais square (‘put the towns in the countryside’ he said), the old 2CV car with a holed hood, the cemetery, the chapel, the war memorial from the 1920s in its original state.
Really everything is there.
A word from the mayor:
Since 2016, Génerville has been participating to the Chemins de Photos adventure, to show that a small rural town of about sixty inhabitants has something to tell through artistic events.
It is therefore quite natural that the local council accepted the proposal of the association D 119, to be the pilot site of the ‘I LOVE VILLAGE’ project, which in 2020 became ‘I love Génerville’.
If you stop here on your way through Chemin de photos, you will have the opportunity to discover this small village nestled in the hollow of the countryside of Piège, far from the beaten track, which will seduce you, not by its flamboyant architecture, but by its somewhat old-fashioned charm, imbued with nostalgia.
Jean-Henry Farné, Mayor.
