Born in Nantes under the name Expolaroid in 2013, The Analog Festival is now run in Paris since its emancipation from the Polaroid company in 2022. This emancipation also marked the inclusion of ancient alternative techniques alongside instant photography.
This 12th edition promises to be rich and diverse, with a strong representation from the provinces, driven by a group show in Périgueux following the selection of Elizabeth Herman’s artwork for the official illustration. The slogan “Le Périgord, c’est bon pour mon corps” (The Périgord is good for my body), full of mischief, encapsulates the spirit of the festival, which brings together people of all ages and skill levels in galleries or alternative spaces, now embracing a range of historical alternative techniques alongside traditional instant photography.
Viewers will discover a program of exhibitions, animations, conferences, and open workshops that will delight both Sunday strollers and collectors, as well as representatives of institutions seeking emerging talents to acquire. Though traditionally centered around the month of April, this programming extends throughout spring to allow as many venues as possible to showcase their collections, the works of their artists, or to host new proposals.
There will be a strong representation of the collodion technique, featuring 3 exhibitions, 3 conferences, 1 workshop, and the presentation of a book, highlighting its unique character as the most poetic technique in the realm of photographic processes. It honors craftsmanship, artisanal skills, and the technique of the camera, representing both the history of photography and the appreciation of time amidst the proliferation of images whose veracity is increasingly questioned by the interference of computer algorithms.
