Tabitha Soren’s photographs visualize how we touch and are touched by technology in new and unexpected ways. Her series, Surface Tension, maps the fingerprints and residue left on our devices as a result of incessant daily use. These marks, trace our actions, gestures, and increasingly, are evidence of our fleeting attention.
Beneath the marks, Soren reveals images from the endless scroll of digital culture. The exhibition confronts the daily struggle between the technological and the personal, drawing a connection between what troubles us and what distracts us. The stronger our dependence on technology, the less time we spend touching our natural world– an alarming trend that can produce significant consequences for the individual, for democracy, and for humanity.
