The T3 Tokyo Photo Festival offers a vibrant program of discussions and meetings this weekend.
On Saturday, notable figures such as Diane Dufour (Director of Le Bal), Sandra S. Phillips (San Francisco Museum), Anne Havinga (Museum of Fine Arts, Boston), and Erin O’Toole (SFMOMA) will, under the guidance of Marc Feustel, trace a fifty-year history of Japanese photography. This history is defined by exchanges between Japan and the West, marked by the historic 1974 MOMA exhibition “New Japanese Photography.”
Another discussion that day will focus on building public and private photography collections and how institutions, galleries, and private players foster a creative environment for artists. Photography fairs, sometimes unfairly criticized for their role in the globalization of art, remain essential for showcasing artists and sharing their work with a broader audience, as highlighted by Jeong Eun Kim, director of the T3 Photo Asia Fair.
On Sunday, one of the key discussions will be the presentation of four female photographers from Asia: Yeonjin Oh (Seoul), Nozomi Suzuki (Japan), John Yui (Taiwan), and Hiền Hoàng (Vietnam). Titled “Discover New Asia: Exploring Artistic Self-Discovery with Four Women,” this talk will explore self-representation through the photographic lens.
