Thierry Girard is a photographer who fits in “the thickness of the landscape”.
In 1978, he approaches the territories of the North and the Pas-de-Calais as an artist-surveyor at random of his meetings and his intuitions. He continued this adventure several years in a row, magnetized by what he discovered and showed the daily life and the working world. In 2017 and 2018, Thierry Girard decided to return in his footsteps in the mining basin of the North and the Pas-de-Calais, as a return to the origin of his photographic work.
Le Monde d’Après intertwines the visions of an upset territory, captured almost forty years apart by the same man, photographer looking at “the vibrant of the world” who himself has evolved in his way of being there and in what he calls, as an artisan, the way of looking. The book is built on the assembly of these two lines of forces (black and white Leica in the 80s, color in medium digital format now) merged into a single block, which transcribes the unique look posed on the world by Thierry Girard .
On the occasion of the release of Thierry Girard’s book Le Monde d’Après, the editions Light Motiv and The Bookstore Le Bateau Livre invite you to meet the author on May 16 at 18:30.
Presentation of the book at the exhibition Le Monde d’après at the Cité des Electriciens in Bruay-la-Buissière on May 17th.
