From November 15 to December 20, Galerie L’Angle in Hendaye will host “Métanoïa,” an exhibition by photographer Fabrice Domenet.
Against the backdrop of our climate emergency, this exhibition invites a reconsideration of how we perceive and relate to the environment, urging a paradigm shift. The concept of métanoïa—an expanded state of consciousness that redefines previous perspectives—serves as an invitation to a new awareness. This shift reflects the urgent need to reassess our connection to the natural world amid potential environmental collapse, making métanoïa a metaphor for a deeply personal awakening.
The exhibition presents Domenet’s work as a series of diptychs, offering viewers a two-step vision that probes our relationship with the living world and questions the essence of our existence. In theology, métanoïa translates to “penance” or “repentance,” implying that recognizing the moral implications of our actions and committing to change opens the door to new possibilities. Mahatma Gandhi’s words, “Be the change you wish to see in the world,” resonate here, suggesting that only by transforming ourselves can we foster a genuine reconnection with the mineral, plant, animal, and cosmic realms. The exhibition encourages a sensory engagement with the living world, a means to understand our fundamental interconnectedness.
The “Métanoïa” Exhibition
The exhibit includes 39 prints on Awagami Mitsumata double-layer paper (95g), produced in Piezography Pro® by Patrick Borie-Duclaud, with editions of 3 and 8. Additionally, two Platinum Palladium prints, in editions of 3, were created by Jean-Pascal Laux on Arches Platine and Gampi Haini 12g papers, mounted on 24-carat gold leaf. The exhibit also features “Planos,” a 14-minute soundtrack by Mathis Domenet, designed to complement the photographic series by Fabrice Domenet and creating an immersive audio-visual experience.
About Fabrice Domenet
Born in 1963 in Biarritz, Fabrice Domenet now lives and works in Paris. Originally trained in dance, he pursued both dance and photography, viewing them as inseparable disciplines that explore the relationship between body and space. An early devotee of analog photography, he developed black-and-white prints in the darkroom from a young age. In 2015, Domenet’s portfolio was noticed at the “Photo Doc” portfolio reviews in Paris, leading to his first exhibition at the Voies Off festival in Arles in 2016. Since then, he has exhibited in galleries across France and internationally. Following his exhibitions Towards the Interior in 2018, Seeing with Eyes Closed in 2019, and The Skin of the World in 2021, Domenet, a resident artist of Galerie L’Angle, returns in 2024 to present his new series Métanoïa.
