NatachaDassault Art Gallery (NAG) presents a unique exhibition “The motionless journey, and everything will start again …”, an immersion in the fantasized world, of one of the masters of photography, Gérard Rancinan (MACBA, Palais de Tokyo, Biennale of Venice …). After a 7 years absence from Parisian gallery, he responded to Natacha Dassault’s invitation to announce his comeback. A carte blanche to exhibit 30 new photographic paintings, which narrate the complexities of our society and its renewal, by confronting for the first time the artistic genre of still lifes.
In a well prepared scenography , his accomplice Caroline Gaudriault joins the exhibition through her texts and simultaneously releases a book entitled “The immobile journey” published by Paradox.
Rancinan, an extraordinary photographer
The times are his playground. Photographer, artist, traveler, always curious about the upheavals of his contemporaries, Rancinan is a keen witness of the metamorphoses of our societies. From his portraits of the great leaders of the planet (Fidel Castro, John Paul II) to a Still Life photographed in his studio, Rancinan always speaks to us about the world and its passengers.
His uncompromising artistic testimony puts us in front of the great mirror of life. “The role of the artist is to be a witness, a marker of the time given to him. He has a great responsibility for the act he commits. To think of the world is to make it exist. Rancinan said. An officer of arts and letters, he obtained 6 World Press and exhibits in the most prestigious museums in the world. (MACBA, Palais de Tokyo, Venice Biennale …).
Rancinan and Caroline Gaudriault: uncompromising photographic writing
The photographer ignores conventions, he immerses himself in current affairs, like a true artist-editorialist and masterfully orchestrates his monumental works, of breathtaking aesthetics. It is part of the history of art by drawing inspiration from the greatest masters of painting: from Caravaggio to Matisse, from Velasquez to Delacroix or Géricault… A photographic act, enhanced with a touch of impertinence, the Rancinan’s keen eye, that’s a 360 degree thought!
The exhibition “Et tout recommencera” was born out of a joint reflection between the photographer and Caroline Gaudriault, the author with whom he has been in dialogue for more than 20 years. Both are living witnesses of our contemporary society and claim a kaleidoscopic vision, a breathless world that regains hope. Despite the major upheavals (climatic, epidemic, political), from this irreversible chaos will shine the light.
This new exhibition is an invitation to introspection, to a “motionless journey”, to a “Proustian reminiscence” …
In dialogue with Rancinan’s photographs, Giulia De Jonckheere (Lovart.be) offers a selection of designer furniture through beautiful emblematic pieces notably signed by Ado Chale, Vladimir Kagan, Philippe Hiquily, Willy Rizzo … (collaborations carried out with Laffanour – Galerie Downtown, Galerie Yves Gastou, Maison Rapin, the Ado Chale workshop and rugs by Deirdre Dyson). The Montresso Foundation * is joining forces for this exhibition with NatachaDassault Art Gallery.
