Meeting the men and women of Mauritania
“Yes, time sometimes stands still. Sometimes it looks at us. Through Jocelyne Forgeot’s photos, we feel a life watching us, a world penetrating us. Through the magic of photography, the roles are reversed: it’s the eyes of a world frozen in its austere splendor that plunge into us and tell us a silent story that caresses deep sensations.” – Mbarek Ould Beyrouk
“L ‘Horizon pour toute demeure” is a walk through a diverse Mauritania, most of whose landscapes are Saharan, but which is also sahel and savannah. Numerous oases, havens of peace, restful stops, places of worship and knowledge punctuate the aridity of the sands.
The exhibition is accompanied by a book published by Editions 0dyssée.
Format 24 x 28 cm, 144 pages
72 color photographs, hardcover, 38 euros

The photographer delivers a visual account of this journey, imbued with admiration and respect for these people who, with few material possessions, are free to leave in an instant for other horizons. Under the sweltering sun or in the half-light of tents and houses, his photographs create a still, majestic silence. They bear witness to a reality that is both fleeting and eternal.
Introduced by a preface by Mauritanian writer Mbarek Ould Beyrouk, the book is divided into six chapters punctuated by poems by French-Mauritanian author Mariem Derwich, translated into Arabic. The poet’s imaginative, melodious language magnificently accompanies the beauty of the images, like a whisper in the midst of infinite silence.
