Stefano Bianchi’s series Suivez mon regard is presented by Galerie Catherine Pennec from October 10th to November 16th, 2024.
Stefano Bianchi’s art project, titled Suivez mon regard [Follow My Gaze] brings together several series created between 2009 and 2024 into a coherent body of work, where the underlying thread of his research and reflections on light, form, and perception emerges.
Everything here rests on a paradoxical principle: capturing objects “as they are” while transforming them, through the photographic gesture, to reveal their deepest essence, their “hidden face,” a gateway to an unexpected and new dimension.
The artist constantly plays between the factual reading of the object represented in the work and the elusive and fleeting impression that the same object evokes in us. This dilemma creates a moment of suspension for the viewer, a space of silence where their own “inner music” can slip in and resonate, accompanied by their own reminiscences. It is a space conducive to the unexpected, to epiphanies. An open space that allows the work to remain always alive, never reduced to its simple subject. The fact that this is achieved through purely photographic imagery makes it all the more strange and intriguing. Each photograph becomes a place of coexistence between two realities, an experience that is as much visual as it is spiritual.
Stefano Bianchi invites us to “follow his gaze” and embark on a disorienting journey into a world within reach yet foreign, where appearances are deceptive, where things radiate with a life of their own, and the boundary between reality and symbolism blurs.
Transporting us to intimate and secret landscapes where revelation transcends mere representation, Suivez mon regard is much more than a photography exhibition; it is an invitation to rediscover the power of image and imagination through the eyes of a visionary artist.
Stefano Bianchi
Born in Italy in 1964, he discovered photography at the age of 12 through a small Kodak Instamatic camera found in a drawer. A self-taught photographer, after experimenting in various fields—from photojournalism to fashion photography—he specialized in studio still life photography.
At a young age, he collaborated with Condé Nast (Vogue) in Milan, producing numerous editorial image series. In the early 1990s, he lived in France, alternating collaborations with the press (Vogue, Glamour, L’Officiel, Jalouse, Madame Figaro, Libération, Télérama, etc.) and advertising campaigns for the most important agencies.
Starting in the 2000s, with the advent of digital photography, he gradually moved away from commissioned work to focus on personal research centered on light and material.
An exhibition supported by the Centre national des arts plastiques, France (CNAP).
