L’ANGLE presents its new exhibition EXPO_019 – « Voir les yeux fermés » (“See with closed eyes”) by the photographer Fabrice Domenet from November 15 to December 29, 2019.
Opening of the exhibition in the presence of the photographer and signature of his new book « Voir les yeux fermés » (“See with closed eyes”) published by the young editior BIS Editions, Saturday, November 16 at 18:30
“From the things in the eyes and the eyes to the vision, nothing more passes than things in the hands of the blind and his hands to his thought. ”
Merleau-Ponty in The eye and the Spirit.
On the principle of a filmed sequence, the series « Voir les yeux fermés » (“See with closed eyes”) comes to question our relationship to reality. Wandering in the limbo of the imaginary, the chronology of images is part of a process of a temporal evolution.
Remanences, evocations or omens?
The intention is not in the narration. Only the experience of visions parading like a film whose meaning could be born from the symbolism of each of the “windows” open on the subconscious. Like the experience of the shamanic trance destined to come into contact with the invisible and which consists in creating the union between body and mind, my photographic work comes to question this relationship between the world around us and our inner world. He seeks to make “visible” the manifestation of the non-visible.
Fabrice Domenet
Biography
Born in 1963, in the city of Biarritz, Fabrice Domenet lives and works in Paris. Initially trained in choreographic studies, he is a dancer while at the same time doing photography as an autodidact. There is a close relationship between these two areas that he has never been able to dissociate. He thus questions respectively the relation of the body-presence to space and time while seeking from a physical experience, to modify our states of perception. Coming from the “silver” generation, he invested very young in his first box and simultaneously acquired a photographic enlarger. Then he exercised in black and white printing in darkroom. Spotted by image experts during the “Photo Doc” 2015 portfolio readings organized by Carré-sur-Seine in Paris, he exhibited for the first time at the Festival Voies Off Arles in 2016. Since then, he has been invited to exhibit in various galleries in Paris, in the provinces and abroad. Presented for the second year in a row at L’ANGLE in Hendaye, and returning from Fotofever 2019 on the gallery booth, Fabrice Domenet is exhibiting his new series « Voir les yeux fermés » (“See with closed eyes”). The series is also the subject of the publication of an eponymous book published by the very young house BIS Editions.
