Bassenge announces an outstanding upcoming photography auction scheduled for June 5th at 3 PM CET.
This auction showcases an extensive assortment of photographic treasures, ranging from the works of early pioneers such as Édouard Baldus, Eugène Atget, Auguste Salzmann, Samuel Bourne, James Anderson, David Octavius Hill and Robert Adamson, Giorgio Sommer, Bisson Frères, Nadar, and Étienne Carjat, to modernist masters like Man Ray, Brassaï, El Lissitzky, František Drtikol, Lucien Hervé, and Henri Cartier-Bresson, as well as more recent works by acclaimed artists including Harry Callahan, Bernd and Hilla Becher, Nan Goldin, Sebastião Salgado, Nobuyoshi Araki, and Rinko Kawauchi, among others.
Noteworthy highlights include two masterfully executed platinum palladium prints by icons of fashion photography Irving Penn and Herb Ritts, estimated at €18,000 and €10,000 respectively; an early large-format gelatin silver print by German conceptual artists Bernd and Hilla Becher, estimated at €8,000; a stunning portfolio of gelatin silver prints from Hans Bellmer’s La Poupée series, estimated at €8,000, as well as what can be regarded as one of the first photographic records of early aviation, featuring a photograph of Otto Lilienthal during his pioneering experiments, estimated at €7,000.
The sale also features an extensive selection of works by German postwar photographers such as Marta Hoepffner, Jürgen Klauke, Tata Ronkholz, Robert Häusser, and Jörg Sasse, alongside a special focus on photographers from the former German Democratic Republic (GDR), including practitioners such as Ulrich Wüst, Arno Fischer, Ute Mahler, and Gundula Schulze-Eldowy.
