The Czech Center in Paris will present, from 16 January to 2 March 2019, a photographic exhibition entitled “Aznavour in Prague / Farewell to Jan Palach”.
This selection of will exceptional photographs depicts the historical days that young Charles Aznavour spent in Prague in January 1969 when Jan Palach died. Aznavour was scheduled to perform in the Czech capital, but canceled it on hearing of the death of the young Charles University student who set himself on fire on Wenceslas Square 50 years ago, on 16 January 1969.
About 40 photos by Czech photographer Pavel Vácha illustrate different places in Prague’s city center, such as the Karolinum, the Old Town Square, Wenceslas Square, and others, where ceremonies were held in honor of Jan Palach.
