This exhibition will present for the first time in Belgium about fifty prints of the France Demay Collection browsing the entire body of literature around this feeling of happiness that crosses the photographs of France Demay.
Between the history of the “Popular Front” years and moments of life of a band of friends who seizes this new holiday and is passionate about emerging leisure, this exhibition offers an original reinterpretation of this moment in history inscribed in the collective memory of the French.
In the perspective of comparing the “Scents of happiness” of 1936 with a vision as broad as possible of happiness 80 years later, the Circle of Photographers of Liège, “Priorité à l’Ouverture” proposes to expose in parallel of the Collection France Demay, in the rooms of the Grand Curtius, the winning photographs of their contest, browsing the vision of happiness today.
Soft scenes and smiles of children respond to the notion of happiness interpreted by France Demay but also sometimes more surprising images, poetic or in counterpoint, provoking this same societal questioning on our contemporary lives.
