Opening on Tuesday, June 25th, Orange Art Projects is pleased to present ‘8 1/2 Anti-Social Masks for Instagram’ the first exhibition by Kuzma Vostrikov and Ajuan Song featuring select works from their new photographic portrait series, ‘Absolutely Augmented Reality’.
Incorporating surrealistic motifs while evading any use of digital manipulation or photoshop editing, ‘Absolutely Augmented Reality’ explores the compelling intersection between modern photography and humanity’s “mental archive” of the subconscious dreamscape. Without alluding to any concrete ideas or unified plot-lines, Vostrikov and Song play fast and loose with the concept of time, asking viewers to consider whether these images represent lived experiences or premonitions for the future.
Gallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 12-6pm and by private appointment.
Mission Statement
The first rule of magic forbids explaining illusions. But for our purposes, we’ll gladly take you backstage to showcase the unbridled expanse of our vision.
We collect phantasms from dreams, cataloging the penumbra of fleeting moments. Individually, each photograph suggests a narrative that declines resolution; collectively, the series evades the comfort of clarity in favor of the mysteries of ambiguity. As storytellers, we are uncertain guides, leaving breadcrumbs along multiple pathways, some as definitive as a punchline, others as elusive as a mirage.
Seizing upon the theatrical tradition of suspended belief, we ask, what if you’ll believe anything you see? What if you understand falsehood as truth, or truth as falsehood? Don’t believe us, we implore, while insisting what you see is no mere trick. It is everything you see. It is nothing you see. Everything you see is real in its unreality.
