Beirut’s Phoenicia Hotel is a place where anything can happen. It could be magical, romantic, creative, intriguing, inspiring, mysterious.
First launched in 2016, Phoenicia Hotel Art Photo (PHAP) is a year-long initiative that invites one photographer each month to produce one art photo during a one night stay at the hotel. Each spring, an exhibition takes place, displaying all 12 art photos from the year, with a judging panel announcing the winner at the launch.
This year’s panel of twelve judges included filmmaker-photographer Charbel Bouez, photographer Raymond Khalife, artist and writer Jeroen Kramer, photojournalist Emily Garthwaite and photographer Roger Moukarzel.
This year’s winning entry, announced on 19 March, was by photographer Marcia Gunning for her image entitled “Golden Eye” taken during Gunning’s stay in May 2018. The winning prize is $5,000 plus an additional amount in dollars corresponding to the room number the photographer stayed in.
All entries, including ‘Golden Eye’ will be on display to the public at Phoenicia Hotel in Minet el Hosn, Beirut until Friday 19 April 2019.
