The Center for Photographic Art (CPA) is pleased to announce the 2017 International Juried Exhibition! This year we are offering $10,000 in awards to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of our historic gallery space, founded by the Friends of Photography in 1967, and proudly continued by the Center for Photographic Art since 1988. Forty-five juror-selected photographs will be exhibited in CPA’s historic gallery at Sunset Center in Carmel, California. These photographs will be featured in an online gallery on the CPA website. Up to an additional forty-five images will be selected and also included in the online gallery. An exhibition catalog of the images chosen for both the gallery and online exhibitions will be available for purchase. An entry discount is available for new and current CPA members.
CPA is honored to have as this year’s juror, Philip Brookman, Consulting Curator in the Department of Photographs at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. He is currently organizing Gordon Parks: The New Tide, 1940–1950, and in 2016 curated Intersections: Photographs and Videos from the National Gallery of Art and the Corcoran Gallery of Art. Mr. Brookman was Chief Curator and Head of Research and Senior Curator of Photography and Media Arts at the Corcoran Gallery of Art from 1993 to 2014, where he organized exhibitions by celebrated artists such as Eadweard Muybridge, Sally Mann, Emmet Gowin, Robert Frank, Arnold Newman and Danny Lyon. Mr. Brookman brings a deep understanding and broad appreciation of diverse photographic styles, genres and mediums to CPA’s 2017 IJE.
