Photography Auction Bassenge – Auctions of Icons of Modern Photography

This auction presents yet another diverse selection of photographic treasures, ranging from the pioneering work of Gustave Le Gray, Édouard Baldus, Félix Teynard, Pascal Sébah, Francis Frith, Henri Béchard, Eadweard Muybridge, Ottomar Anschütz, and Ogawa Kazumasa, to celebrated icons of modern photography such as Hans Bellmer, André Kertész, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Doisneau, Herbert List, Horst P. Horst, Robert Frank, Elliott Erwitt, and Erwin Blumenfeld, as well as more contemporary voices in the form of Nan Goldin, Candida Höfer, Tata Ronkholz, Thomas Struth, and Michael Schmidt, among others.

Noteworthy highlights include a well-preserved albumen print of Gustave Le Gray’s seminal work Brick au Claire de Lune (Brig on the Water), estimated at €20,000; a rare selection of portraits depicting high-ranking Chinese Imperial officials and views of Peking by Georges Auguste Morache, estimated at €20,000; Nan Goldin’s complete and iconic James King: Supermodel series, estimated at €15,000; a set of 10 vibrant dye transfer prints by the distinguished fashion photographer Erwin Blumenfeld, estimated at €10,000; and a comprehensive album containing 21 collotypes from Eadweard Muybridge’s renowned Animal Locomotion series, estimated at €10,000.

Additionally, the auction features an extensive selection of photographs from celebrated German photographers, including Heinz Hajek-Halke, Otto Steinert, Jürgen Klauke, Will McBride, and Thomas Hoepker, alongside a curated focus on artists from the former German Democratic Republic (GDR), with works by Ulrich Wüst, Arno Fischer, Sibylle Bergemann, Robert Paris, and Gerhard Gäbler.
