Emynassy –Yangon – to the End of Strife

Yangon //

My work is closely related to the daily life of burmese people that compose each day under the yoke of a military dictatorship. It was my third visit to Burma (Jan.2004 – May.2008 – Sept.Oct.2010). This time i chose to stay in Yangon to photograph the perceptible breath of hope a few days before the regional elections, the first since 1990. The validity of my visa would not allow me to attend the release of the Democratic icon and Nobel Prize Aung San Suu Kyi, which took place November 13, 2010. The elections were condemned fraudulent by the United Nations and Western countries, a lure to get more time facing the international pressure. Today, Burma is again at a key moment in its history. These photographs are my only witness of this era in which the NLD was excluded from these elections.
Despite questions about my real intentions about my extended stay in Yangon and a slight police surveillance, these photographs were taken with a careless freedom.
