Emilie Fontaine : The Seamstresses
Out of time, a factory, seamstresses …
We are in 2019, the time has passed but the company still remains.
Through my work, I introduce you to this factory and the seamstresses.
Women workers, they started working for the Laboureur when they were 17, 18 years old or older and have made their entire career within this company.
My work has two axes, highlight the work of these women workers and immortalize a company that has survived since 1956.
Le Laboureur
Producing in France, fashion clothing using old patterns, work with raw materials and high quality fabrics. For more than 50 years, “Le Laboureur” has made the clothes according to these principles. Indeed, since 1956, this small family business is famous for making, in the south of Burgundy, old-fashioned work clothes and everyday clothes as in the past.
In the early 1950s, Primo Zelanti, the founding father of the company, started to sell agricultural working clothes in the fairs and markets around: Digoin, Gueugnon, Paray-le-Monial, Charolles … This small business developed quickly and encouraged Primo Zlanti to create, in 1956, his own brand: Le Laboureur (The Plowman). He attached strong values to produce, in the heart of France, high quality old-fashioned clothing with good materials and fabrics.
