Ellie Davies : Seascapes

Preview

Crane Kalman Brighton presents new series of work – Seascapes (2020) by Ellie Davies – which are being exhibited virtually through the gallery’s viewing room –

Ellie Davies is a fine art photographer, an LCC MA graduate in 2008, who has been working in the forests of the UK for the past ten years, producing work which explores the complex interrelationship between the landscape and the individual.

Ellie’s work explores the fabricated nature of landscape by making a variety of temporary and non-invasive interventions in the forest, which place the viewer in the gap between reality and fantasy. Creating this space encourages the viewer to re-evaluate the way in which their relationship with the landscape is formed, and the extent to which it is a product of cultural heritage or personal experience.

In her new series ‘Seascapes’ (2020), Ellie continues her long preoccupation with the woodland, this time combined with mesmerizing images of the sea which offer a personal commentary on the growing threat of rising water levels in her beloved New Forest and a mediation on her relationship with the woods themselves and how they are intrinsically linked to a nostalgia of her childhood spent there with her twin sister.

The exhibition continues until 14th June 2020.
