In this series, photographing the body tends towards abstraction, towards a rigorous composition in the available light, build around lines, the texture of the skin, and contrasts of light and shadow. These are Figures libres (“free figures”) because the subjects photographed were able to move about freely without any worrying about striking “photogenic” poses.
