On the occasion of its 14th edition, EAT Photos introduces us to the personal work of photographer Mathieu Richer Mamousse represented by the Supervision agency.
FOIRE
Photographer: Mathieu Richer Mamousse
Born in the Paris region in 1989, Mathieu Richer Mamousse grew up in the south of France, whose luminous lights continue to profoundly influence his work.
While he was planning a career as a journalist, his artistic sensitivity led him towards photography, which in his eyes offered the best compromise between testimony and visual poetry. His stories are as much interested in folklore and traditions as in the destiny of individuals on the margins. The choice of analog photography, the richness of the colors and the particular attention paid to lights are signs of the aesthetic bias that permeates his images.
The “FOIRE” series brings together a set of photos taken at the Foire du Trône, a Parisian funfair more than a thousand years old. The photographer goes there every year to capture the kaleidoscopic atmosphere of its attractions, its festive spirit and the faces that animate it. Historically frequented by the working classes, the Foire du Trône is for Mathieu Richer Mamousse “a fascinating cultural and sociological mirror”, both a theater of reality and an invitation to escape from it.
