The Empty Quarter Gallery presents The Sultans of Silver. An exhibition of fine art black and white photographs, inspired by the culture and heritage from the Gulf region with:
Josef Hoflehner was born in 1955 in Wels, Austria when the country was still under allied occupation. He grew up in a family where the camera was used so rarely that as many as three Christmas holidays would be captured on one roll of film. Although Austria could boast awesome mountains and a great natural landscape, it had no coastlines, deserts or empty spaces where one could see the horizon unimpaired. At the age of 20 Hoflehner purchased a camera and began to travel. An early award for photography began to open doors professionally and his career has continued to develop.
Sami Nabeel was born in Jordan in 1958 to a Palestinian Father and Greek Mother. Landscape Photography became a passion from a very early age. It continues to be a means of self-expression and acts as a counterbalance to his life as the head of a successful international design and construct business that delivers world class projects. Most of the images he makes are on large format equipment and, when time permits, he travels in search of these moment when the light weaves its magic.
“My aim is to make images that evoke emotions rather than tell a story”, says Sami Nabeel. “To achieve this, I try to distill nature’s chaos using the smallest number of elements. In essence, my photography can be summed up as an attempt to marry light to subject.”
