Mexican artist and photographer Denise De La Rue has created a special series entitled Angels and Witches: Goya, Metamorphose that will be on view at the Lázaro Galdiano Museum, in Madrid, from June 22nd. This special exhibition pays homage to the famous Spanish painter Francisco de Goya by photographing iconic Spanish actresses such as Michelle Jenner, Claudia Traisac, Natalia de Molina, Anna Castillo, Macarena Garcia and Veronica Echegui, among his paintings of witches and angels. As the title suggests, it showcases Goya’s interpretation of witches, commissioned by the Duke of Osuna in the late 1700s. Each piece juxtaposes the concept of a strong female actress with the historical artwork: is she a witch, an angel, or a combination of both?
