The sixth contemporary art center in France specializing in photography was officially opened in Niort on April 12 and 13. With the association Pour l’Instant, which has organized residencies for young photographers since 1994, the center will present through May 31 the series Du Nil dans mes veines, shot in Cairo by Denis Dailleux, along with the work of eight resident photographers at the Rencontres 2013.
Divided into two parts, portraits of the city and its inhabitants, and a series of triptychs showing the martyrs of Tahrir Square, the viewer discovers the photographer’s vision of his adopted city. A master of light and color, Dailleux presents an ambivalent portrait of a traditional Egypt won over today by revolts and the influence of the West and globalization.
On display at the Moulin du Roc is the work of eight resident photographers from across the globe, selected and supervised by Denis Dailleux in Niort for two weeks. Memorable are the subtle scenes of Ayaka Yamamoto, the experiments of Mickael Soyez, and the strange promenade taken by Mireia Ferron Esquena.
