The fashion photographer Deborah Turbeville, known for her sensual images, though dark or even strange, died last Thursday in New York of lung cancer. She was 81 years old. In an interview in 2011 for her latest book, The Fashion Pictures I had been marked by her husky voice and enigmatic character. A personality trait that was perfectly combined with her photographs, aesthetic but cold, in which the models were fleeing gaze upon request. « I do not have a close relationship with my models, she said. I’ve never had. I try to distance with them. I do not talk to them, I only place them in an atmosphere and tells them if they should stay calm or move. They feel the mood I’m trying to create. »
