This year the Planche(s) Contact Festival of photographic creations is presenting the work of nine photographers of which one is a retrospective – in partnership with Olympus – devoted to fashion photographs shot by Peter Knapp in Deauville in the 70s.
A gigantic installation on the beach makes a connection between these photographs and the series blue monochromes. In the relationship that Peter Knapp maintains with Deauville, the question of assignment often comes up. Whether for the house of Courrèges or for magazines like Elle or Stern, the Deauville boardwalk, the sea wall, the Pompeian Baths and the beach provides scenery in line with the photographer’s graphic and colourful world.
Working in Deauville allows Peter Knapp to refine his research, subtle play of clues and geometry, and to play with his images to create new invented landscapes.
