DAY 3 – Miami Project, Cocktail cruise and a very busy evening
I started the day with a bit of yoga on the terrace. When I have such a hectic schedule, it is important to take some time in the morning to remind myself to breathe. With so many satellite fairs in addition to the Convention Center, it can be difficult to choose where to exhibit. This is the second year of the Miami Project fair, and I am very happy to be here. The guys who run it always do a fantastic job.
Miami Project featured a lot of interesting multi-media work. [1], [2], [3] I was very impressed by a unique work by Kate Clark titled The Answer to Your Prayers [4] as well as two meticulously hand-cut collages by Mark Wagner at Pavel Zoubok’s booth. [5][6] (more about currency art in my next post) I loved Fernando Mastrangelo’s sculpture made of rock salt, salt, and glitter. [7] Fernando makes stunning work with various interesting materials, such as sugar and cocaine, plus he is a friend of mine. The photography at the fair was very strong. We brought some very sexy works by Daido Moriyama [8] [9]. Julie Saul showed a striking photograph of The World Trade Center, bright blue and abstracted. [10] Julie and I have been meeting for cocktails all over the world these past few months (We were both Paris two weeks ago for Paris Photo Fair and in Amsterdam two weeks before that for Unseen) I always like the work at Yossi Milo’s booth. He has exquisite taste. [11],[12] I fell in love with a painting by Darren Waterston, titled Whistler Elegy. [13]
I left the fair a bit early to head over to the Sunset Harbor Yacht Club. We were hosting a sunset cruise in honor of Roxanne Lowit, whose work we are exhibiting at the fair. [14], [15] It was a small party of about 15 people, and I was thankful for the moment of quiet before what I knew would be a crazy evening. We cruised around Miami Beach, sipping rose, watching the sunset, and admiring the evening skyline. [16]
After the cruise, I went to the SoHo House to meet some friends for a bite and a few glasses of wine. [17] The SoHo House is a private member’s club for those in creative industries, with outposts across Europe and North America. In the dining room, edgy, funny art is hung studio-style. My favorite piece was one by my dear friend Scott Campbell, made of cocaine and velvet. [18] We left the SoHo House and headed to The Delano Hotel for a DuJour Magazine Party. Sexy photographs by Raphael Mazzucco covered the walls of the lobby, [19],[20] and equally sexy guests sashayed through the crowd. [21]
