“Why does one cover his car? Could this be a form of intimacy that one would like to remove from the public space in which it is exposed?
For years, according to my travels, I stop a few moments to photograph these cars dressed in mystery.
To veil, to cover is to shelter, to protect, it is also to hide and to remain master of the object while leaving some clues appearing. In Lisbon, someone drew on the tarpaulin a steering wheel and the outline of a windshield. In Tangiers, the rear view mirrors of the van are covered like Mickey’s ears in winter. In Tokyo, a car sleeps in the middle of potted plants.
In Paris, in a car park, a beige tarpaulin, light as a designer dress, highlights a superb shape. At ground level, we guess the roundness of chrome, shining like the jewel of a woman who hides to make us dream. ”
