Inspired by simple poetic forms such as Haiku, Cyrille Druart creates small visual ensembles of a dozen photographs. Excluding all superfluity, the human form is his favorite subject. Trained as an architect and a lover of geometry, he strives to create images with strong lines and structured composition.
His work revolves around form, light and poetry. As in the Dream Construction series (2018), where dreamlike images bathed in a steamy, enigmatic atmosphere recount the unfolding of a dream, from falling asleep to waking up.
The Plein silence series (2019-2022) is based on various events in his life that took place during the two years of the pandemic. Birth, death, it’s an ensemble inspired by the calm of successive confinements, and the particular rhythm of the world at that time.
Without ever lapsing into abstraction, he nevertheless tries to come close, keeping one foot in reality. It’s a search for simplification, and like his architectural creations, the minimalist approach and sobriety are paramount.
His work appears on magazine covers, novels (Georges Simenon, Antonio Soler), record sleeves (Cigarettes After Sex, jazzman Simon Moullier), and is regularly published in the professional press. Galerie Philia represents him in Paris, Geneva, Mexico and Singapore.
