For the first time, the CRP/Centre régional de la photographie Hauts-de-France has taken over the Arenberg – La Porte du Hainaut mining site.
Guillaume Martial‘s works were installed outside, on the facades of the buildings, and inside, in the compressor room.
Guillaume Martial (Fr, 1985) is a visual artist, photographer and video artist whose research into space and the body is inspired by the world of circus and burlesque cinema. He presents En forme(s) in an exhibition-parcours, the fruit of a creative and mediation residency at the CRP/ and a Cultural Olympiad label. e.
Like a sports guide, En Forme(s) brings together texts borrowed from physical education manuals from the early 1930s and images created last summer by the artist in the studios of the Mining site Site of Arenberg – La Porte du Hainaut.
For Guillaume Martial, sport isn’t just a serious matter of competition, it’s above all a playful expression and a way of appropriating the spaces in which we live.
Workshop feedback – (summer 2024).
During his residency, Guillaume Martial embarked on a marathon of workshops, meeting with schoolchildren and associations from all over the region. The result is a fresco of portraits set against a backdrop of Olympic colors.
Under the artist’s eye, the young participants interpret sporting figures in their own way. The modules created by Faubourg 132, a local design collective, display the colorful creations of workshops held with Afpa, leisure centers, the Denain Art School and local residents.
Folding (2014-2017) – Until January 8, 2025.
Folding is a work on sports space and its physical appropriation. An athlete, interpreted by the photographer himself, plays at bending the reality of these playing spaces through actions. These places, sometimes abandoned, are reactivated. Here, the character invents his own rules of the game, offering us a new reading of sports photography.
