Amador Rabal, Enterrador
I’ve always loved the stories found in the corners of the apparent daily normality .
Inside the cemetery, a man wanders among crosses and headstones, cleaning golden letters and colorful flowers. I watch him digging.
For a while, I’ve only photographed statues of angels who guard the tombs, cracked statues of Christ , empty niches, etc …
After talking with him , I felt the need to tell his story with images.
His job is scary for some. but he meet it with the dignity of a gardener who cares with love for plants. He is someone who tries to make life easier around him and since it can not help with the dead, he try to do it for the living people, understanding their pain.
His name is Amador Rabal. Undertaker by profession, he is familiarized with death. And when there is a pause, he smokes a cigarette and then continue with his routine.
And he whispers to me; “the people always have a fear of the unknown. When consciousness awakens ignorance disappears and with it their anxiety
