A great news that came yesterday. Christian Caujolle takes charge of the programming of the Château d’Eau de Toulouse, this mythical place of French photography founded in 1974 by Jean Dieuzaide.
Christian also added these few words: When the Municipal Gallery of the Château d’Eau opened in 1974, I was a student in preparatory classes in Toulouse. It was there that I saw an exhibition of photographs for the first time. And if I fell into photography, it is through the fault, or because of, Jean Dieuzaide, whose centenary of his birth will be celebrated next year. I think of him, his wife Jacqueline, their son Michel, still active, photographer, videographer, who was once director of the Château d’Eau that his father had thought, invented, created. I know the constraints of this beautiful place but I think back to these words of Kertész, whose photos I saw for the first time in Toulouse: “I am too sentimental”. – Christian Caujolle
In any case, his nomination is normal; of all this generation who came to photography in the 70s he was the best of us!
