Lyon seen by its photographers: this is the editorial line of Chabe! magazine the second issue of which has just been published. Around twenty photographers tell the story of Lyon and its territory through unique testimonies. A presentation by Anaïs Viand.
“Sensitive, committed and grounded. » This is how photographer Juliette Treillet, artistic director of Chabe!, summarizes this second opus of the Lyon magazine, the first issue of which was published in October 2022. The objective? Build a community of photographers living in the Lyon region and give them a space to express themselves. “This is a project of the heart, because photography is, this time, not at the service of a support, but at the heart of the subject,” recalls Guillaume Berthillier, who signs the artistic direction. “We do not approach images only with regard to their aesthetic values: we delve into the substance, in order to reveal their meaning and offer a real reading. »
First magazine in Lyon, Chabe! also appears as a collective: 330 authors took part in the creation of the first issue and continued the adventure during highlights last year: exhibitions, round tables, photo aperitifs, or even workshops intended for middle and high school students.
“You made me want to photograph my city”: this is one of the compliments received by the publication director, Raphaël Ruffier-Fossoul. Chabe! has therefore returned for issue 2, available today at the online store, in several bookstores and in several points of sale. The visual environment already existing (model, logo, typographic choices, etc.), the challenge was to “support the layout and graffics to create a collection, while bringing novelty”, underlines Guillaume Berthillier. “The game of titling the subjects and the introduction of a fluorescent color on the cover made it possible to renew the perspective, arouse the curiosity of those who read us.”
