This year, the Center Pompidou is celebrating its 40th anniversary. The Parisian institution will celebrate this anniversary throughout the year through 75 events programmed in forty cities in France.
The most impressive statistic is the number of visitors accumulated during the last forty years, which amounted to 102 million for 325 temporary exhibitions presented. The artist who welcomed the most visitors is Salvador Dali, for his exhibition presented in 1979, which received 840,662 visitors.
With 120,000 works, the Pompidou Center is the largest museum of modern and contemporary art in Europe. It devotes 15,000 m2 to the presentation of its permanent collections and 5,200 m2 to temporary exhibitions.
Inaugurated in the autumn of 2014, the Photographic Gallery, located at level -1 and which is free to enter, organizes three exhibitions per year around the center’s photo collection. Until January 30, 2017, the Graffiti of Brassaï are to be rediscovered and for some to see for the first time since the exhibition also presents some unpublished. “With the language of the wall, we are dealing not only with an important social fact, never studied yet, but with one of the strongest and most authentic expressions of art,” commented Brassaï in 1958.
