The exhibition is wonderful. It is at the Galerie Azzedine Alaïa. It is called Between Art and Fashion. There are 200 photographs, by 70 photographers from the 19th century to the present, from Man Ray to Helmut Newton, from Moholy-Nagy to Francesca Woodman, from Daido Moriyama to Alfred Stieglitz. It is the Carla Sozzani collection. “Photography, I’ve lived in it for 48 years”, she says. “I’ve communicated and I always communicate with it, not with writing. My reality, since 1968, it’s the images I’ve collected or been given. They are the memories of my life, that’s why I couldn’t refuse the Azzedine’s proposal. So, in building my collection, I share it. The eye, I think it stays the same, photography, it has changed. Doubtless I am a little nostalgic for a certain classicism and for black and white, but beauty is timeless. My first exhibition was Louise Dahl Wolfe. Why? Because she was the first to leave her magazine when someone wanted to interfere with her images.! I love this kind of courage and I paid homage to her. A final word: photographers are formidable people!”
