The W. Eugene Smith Fund, one of the most prestigious distinction in photojournalism, has now opened its applications for its 39th annual Grant in Humanistic Photography. The fund will give 35 000$ to the winner, “demonstrating an exemplary commitment to documenting the human condition in the spirit of Smith’s concern and compassion”.
The fund is also accepting entries for the 22nd annual Howard Chapnick Grant, “honoring individual for his or her leadership in any field ancillary to photojournalism”. A 4000$ grant will also be attributed to students.
Awards will be given to winners at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, on October 17. Last year, Daniel Castro Garcia won the prestigious prize and joined photographers like Jane Evelyn Atwood, Sebastião Salgado, Darcy Padilla, Lu Guang, Peter van Agtmael, and Eli Reed.
