For eight years now, the BMW Residency gives a voice to “emerging contemporary talents”, exhibited each summer in Arles. After partnering with the Nicéphore Nièpce museum, BMW continues its program with Les Gobelins, School of Image in Paris. This new partnership offers a technological and scientific approach to future winners, giving them access to new technologies and innovation – two themes dear to the automobile company, celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
Thanks to this new partnership, the winner will have access to a broad and comprehensive technology panel, from the oldest photographic techniques to virtual reality. The winner of the BMW – École des Gobelins Prize will enter residence during a three-month residency at the Paris School of Art, from September to December 2018.
In 2017, Baptiste Rabichon was the winner of the prize. The laureate will receive a grant of 6,000 euros. He will be assisted by François Cheval, artistic director of the BMW residence, curator, co-director of the Lianzhou Museum fo Photography. The winner will see his works exhibited at the Rencontres d’Arles and Paris Photo.
The announcement of the prize will take place in June 2018. Applications are open until April 4th.
