David Drebin‘s work combines voyeuristic and psychological viewpoints. He offers the viewer a dramatic insight into emotions and experiences which many of us have doubtlessly felt at. some point in our lives.
After successfully completing the Parsons School of Design in New York City in 1996, David Drebin rapidly made a name for himself as an internationally successful commercial and fashion photographer.
As early as 2005, Drebin had his first solo exhibition at CAMERA WORK. This was followed by a comprehensive illustrated book entitled “Love and Other Stories” 2007. “David Drebin has attained a kind of rock-star status in the world of fashion photography”. Among his exclusive circle of customers are businesses such as American Express, Davidoff, Mercedes, MTV, Nike, and Sony. His works are published in magazines such as Elle, GQ, Marie Claire, New York Times, Rolling Stone, Travel and Leisure, and Vanity Fair.
Drebin’s photographs are epic, dramatic and, ahove all, cinematic. In a unique and opulent way, Drebin stages attractive women against the gigantic backdrops of cities such as Hong Kong, New York, and Paris. The panorama of the big cities, are a tribute to cinema, and serve as gigantic settings. With their impressive skyscrapers, they provide the viewer with a nearly infinite surface for the imagination. Drebin’s intention is to liberate the viewer from the system of rules of everyday life and restore faith, emotion, and humanity. The distinctive tension and depth in his pictures arise from the free combination of such differing topics as humor and sex, melancholy and sex, and melancholy and humor. He has worked with many famous actors such as David Caruso and Charlize Theron. Among his admirers are such personalities as Ben Stiller and Sir Elton John.
His recently released second publication “Dreamscapes & Girls” offers an exemplary overview of Drebin’s work from 2000 to 2009. 52 photographs in total show the versatility of the artist’s work. Cityscapes – predominantly at night – and fashion photographs are complemented by panoramic pictures of Capri or the majestic coast near the Italian city of Amain.
