The art auction house Phillips is presenting a selling exhibition by Brigitte Lacombe entitled Complicities. For the first time the photographer shows her work revealing her unique perspective of the world of the cinema. Portraits and reportage captured between 1977 and today are displayed as large format, limited edition prints.
Throughout her career, Lacombe has collaborated with many international publications, including Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, The NY Times Magazine, New York Magazine, GQ, Paris Vogue, German Vogue, Zeit magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Conde Nast Traveler, Interview Magazine and many others…
In the preface to her book “Lacombe cinema I theater“, the celebrated actor and producer writes, “…I look at these photos and say to myself, ‘Good heavens- that’s what these people really look like: they are human’”.
In the book “Lacombe anima I persona” Frank Rich writes: “There is art and there is show business. In this century where we gorge ourselves on a sparkling voyeurism and an exploitation of celebrities, both disguised as photojournalism, it is essential to have a clear dividing line between the two. That is the key to appreciating the photography of Brigitte Lacombe. Although it regularly takes her into the world of show business, her work strips the commercial world from these artists until we find ourselves face to face with what some of the greatest figures of our time are trying to say to their audiences”.
