Created 18 years ago, the Bourse du Talent is somewhat of an institution. The awards, designed to spotlight the young generation, name one winner in each of the four categories: Landscape, Portrait, Fashion, and Reporting. This year’s innovation is a book published by Éditions Delpire. Visit the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF) to discover the exhibition which brings together the 2016 winners and four honorable mentions.
Every year, the Bourse du Talent awards recognize the work of young photographers in four categories. The winners are selected by a jury made up of photography professionals: gallery owners, heads of art institutions, journalists, photographers, etc. This year, the awards and honorable mentions go, respectively, to Sandra Mehl and Liu Tao, for Reporting; to Hidham Gardaf and the trio Olga Kravets, Maria Morina, and Oksana Yushko, for Landscape; to Vincent Gouriou and Valery Melnikov, for Portrait; and to Charles-Henry Bédué and Fanny Viguier, for Fashion.
Selected from among over 500 submissions, photographers frequently have their work published and exhibited for the first time thanks to the Bourse du Talent. Moreover, some of their images enter into the collections of the BnF Department of Prints and Photography. Indeed, for the past ten years, the BnF has supported the Bourse du Talent by organizing an exhibition. The one showcasing the 2016 winners is on view at the François-Mitterrand site until March 26.
As of 2016, Delpire joins forces with the Bourse du Talent by publishing a book entitled Identités à venir [Identities to Come], which complements and expands the selection on display. In addition to presenting the young photographers, with each edition of the Bourse du Talent, the publication reflects on the major current trends in photography. The idea is to track the emergence and evolution of new visual approaches and ways of exhibiting and viewing, and by extension the evolution of the medium of photography from one year to the next, both from a technical and an artistic point of view. The introductions and commentaries on artists and their works offer fresh insights.
At the moment, there is still plenty of time to see the exhibition.
