Black or white, on or off, male or female, digital or analog, zero or one. A binary point of view divides the world properly, like two alternatives existing in the opposition. The non-binary point of view opens the world to a multiplicity of categories, rejecting the simplification and the contrasting nature of the binary position, while including both the unique and the infinite.
How do artists illustrate these concepts and how do they coexist today? The world is not black and white, countless are the gray levels and colors and even ultra and infrared beyond human optical perception. Where is the spectrum in terms of scientifically definable code, numerical geometry, of astrometry, consciousness, sexuality, spirituality, artificial intelligence and technological singularity?
GESTE Paris is an annual underground exhibition of experimental photography curated by Shiva Lynn Burgos. GESTE brings together vintage and contemporary works by established and emerging artists. As a secret space, GESTE is presented in the convivial setting of a bourgeois Parisian apartment that offers a space for reflection and dialogue. GESTE is the link between a private collection, works of art from prestigious galleries and a selection of guest curators.
