This notebook recounting Hans Silvester‘s last trip to Ethiopia pays tribute to the Hamers women because, in addition to their breathtaking beauty, it carries the life of their people on their solid shoulders. This book is the counterpoint to the photographer’s previous notebook, entitled “Kalach”, published in 2017 at Renard Pâle Éditions. “Kalach” evoked a growing form of violent virility made possible by the importation into Ethiopia of the easiest and most lethal weapon in the world: the Kalashnikov. “Hamer”, on the contrary, shows how much the future of the African continent depends on women, carriers of a sovereign and constructive femininity: “Without them, Africa would sink into total chaos! “. For Hans Silvester, photographing the flamboyant women of the “Hamer” tribe is a way of testifying to their way of life, their unique beauty and their inexhaustible valor.
“HAMER” is a book published by Renard Pâle éditions and is filled with 30 portraits of women of the Hamer people by Hans Silvester. These photographs taken in Ethiopia were printed by the photographer in his studio in Lioux on Fuji paper. This travel book drawn up by Patricia Dupuy, is limited to 36 copies + 2 excluding sales, printed on recycled Keaycolour paper and bound in various ocher-colored leather by Bernard Soria, on the Loire, in February 2020.
