Paris 8 is angry: blockades inside and out, public meetings in session, broadcasts of leaflets, collages of posters, it’s been more than a month since the Paris 8 Saint-Denis University students were mobilised against the proposed El Khomri bill, and the protest doesn’t seem to be abating. Different committees have been set up to define the objectives of everything. The university is blockaded once or twice a week. As a result, serious tensions have exploded between the students and the security service which doesn’t hesitate to use force to prevent the students from bringing their actions onto the campus.
The Political Science Department has been on strike since the start of the protest movement. Alternative courses related to current events have been proposed to the students. Moreover the majority of academics in the Sociology Department have agreed to put in place a system of giving an automatic pass for 10/20 in the mid-term exams. As for their colleagues in Political Science, they are left free to choose the type of pass with an average of 10/20 guaranteed for each student.
