This is the nicest email of the week:
Committed since 2020 to artists and authors in precarious situations, the Barreau des Arts promotes access to law and provides free advice on copyright matters, particularly for photographers.
The association’s volunteer lawyers advise on numerous issues relating to this field such as the originality of works, the transfer of rights, infringement of moral rights (and in particular respect for photographic credit), counterfeiting, and even more recently on subjects linked to artificial intelligence.
This individual support provides tailor-made legal advice, delivered by specialists in the field, for photographers in precarious situations and faced with legal problems.
Lucie Tréguier (lawyer at the Aoedé firm) and Corentin Schimel (artist, former lawyer), co-founders of the Arts Bar, also work in art schools, and in particular with students of the Spéos photography school, to raise their awareness on copyright and give them solid legal bases in this area.
The association has also established a partnership with the French Federation of Photography and Image Professions (FFPMI) in 2024, in a shared dynamic for better access to legal service for photographers.
The association also offers good practices to follow via its social networks: requiring the mention of one’s name when using a work, monitoring the use of one’s works on the internet using digital tools, reporting copyright violations on platforms, etc.
To make contact, photographers can follow the procedure described on the association’s website: www.barreaudesarts.fr
