Barbara Siegel –Lafayette

Preview

Lafayette, the center of Cajun Country, Louisiana, U.S.A.

Louisiana is an intriguing state, from its cultural diversity and fraught history to its swamps full of alligators and ancient spirits. The heat is stifling. The faint wind barely stirs the humid air. Lafayette: betrayed by its name, evolved over the course of centuries, losing its chains but not its soul, its essence, its music. From New Orleans, at the bottom of Queue de Tortue, from Texas to Mississippi, the heartbeat of a vibrant musical community can be heard. Cajun, Creole, Houma, Chitimacha, natives and immigrants, Nova Scotia, Texas, France, Africa, the ancestors of slaves and slave-owners, white, black, Native American—given this cultural alliance, it’s no surprise that the region is inhabited with such spiritual force.

Born 1984 in Linz, Austria, Barbara Siegel lives in Paris since 2004. Shooting personalities, travel and food. She wants to tell stories with her pictures. Inspired by everyday life and people . Trying to find the essence of the subject. Close to emotions, close to real life – the style is simple .
