Art Rotterdam 2014

Preview

At this year’s Art Rotterdam, more than half of the participating galleries are from abroad, and all types of photography are on display: landscapes, portraits, conceptual photography, vintage and contemporary prints, plus many works being exhibited here for the first time.

Some highlights are Timm Rautert at the Parrotta Gallery (Stuttgart), landscapes by Adam Jeppesen at the Galerie Van Der Mieden (Brussels), Marcell Esterházy’s reappropriated archive photographs at the Flatland Galerie (Amsterdam), and last year’s winner of the Prix de l’Académie des Beaux-Arts, South African photographer Katharine Cooper, with a series on the white minority in South Africa and Zimbabwe. Claudine Doury’s series at La Galerie Particulière (Paris) features portraits of young men halfway between adolescence and adulthood, an ill-defined transition that has received much attention in recent years, to say the least. Her work questions the concept of masculinity and what it means to be a “modern” man.
