At the bend of one of these narrow streets which abound in the city of Arles, unfortunately sheltered from discovery despite its registration to one of the circuits claiming the “Off”, I found the work of Benoît Chapon. A nice work that is handmade by this traditionalist in love with analogue printing and passionate about technological research as varied as it is surprising.
We are very far from pseudo digital simulations. The shots are made with a large analog camera. The combination of various laboratory processes are used with subtlety to deliver unique works of a subtle aestheticism.
His cyanotypes are really accomplished and his series of unique pieces printed on paper handkerchiefs, with a very delicate texture, shows that true creation and the work of photographic techniques can offer us very beautiful achievements.
