Arles 2020 day by day by Thierry Maindrault
Interesting proposal in the lounges of the Manuel Rivera Ortiz Foundation that this exhibition dedicated to the island of Taiwan. This “Vision of Taiwan” offers the originality of being that of a local photographer who was born in Taiwan, who lives in Taiwan, who works in Taiwan. This event is supported by the Taiwan Ministry of Culture and by the Taiwan Cultural Center in Paris. This photographic collection, through the common theme of an enigmatic person, presents aspects of this uncompromising objectivity of this emblematic island. That is true but for one of very small facet of this territory that we discover in the photographs.
An original scenography presents the essentials of the photographs in the form of “ChromaLuxe” plates which were assembled like a very large mural look like the panels of slides projections in the decades from 1960 to 1990. Subject to taking a vision back, the eye runs from one image to another to build an effect of coherence and extent.
Cheng-Chang Wu is more oriented towards photojournalism in the local press and he also works as a professor of visual communication at Ling-Tung University in Taichung.
The actions of the Taiwanese Ministry of Culture promote exchanges between the many Taiwanese cultural actors and those from the various countries which it has an active partnership. Given the number of high-quality photographers on this island, it is to be hoped that the intensity of relations and exchanges will naturally increase.
