Photographs by Françoise Galeron, Gilles Magnin and Romain Boutillier, and Griffeuille neighborhood children.
In the heart of Arles’ Griffeuille district, photography has becomes a means of sharing experience, knowledge and culture.
To get local residents involved in the city of Arles’ photography initiatives, SEMPA – a local housing association – and the Voies Off festival have come together to promote artistic creation, exchanges and good community relations in a variety of ways, such as residential artist programmes, mediation, large photographs exhibited on building walls, dinners and a night-time projection in the heart of the district.
In 2016, Voies Off has been involved via a project to create community gardens in the neighbourhood. Artists began their residencies in spring and were invited to work on the gardens, examining nature and the natural, good living, eating well, well-being and living together. With help from other groups such as Petit à Petit, the Semeurs du partage and Solid’Arles, photographers Françoise Galeron, Gilles Magnin and Romain Boutillier have helped make the participants’ more aware of the natural and whimsical world of the gardens and the earth’s hidden treasures.
A large-format exhibition will go on display on neighbourhood building fronts all summer, documenting the artists’ residency in photographs.
